Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Substation Relay Technician to join our client's team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of relay protection systems in electrical substations. The role requires a thorough understanding of substation relay systems, including protection schemes, and the ability to work in a safety-focused, team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Installation & Commissioning:
Install, configure, and test relay systems for new and existing substations, ensuring compliance with design specifications and safety standards.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and troubleshooting on protection relays and associated equipment. Identify and resolve issues to ensure uninterrupted system performance.

Testing & Calibration:
Use advanced testing equipment to perform functional and diagnostic tests on relays. Calibrate relays to ensure proper operation and accuracy.

Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of relay settings, maintenance activities, and testing results. Provide detailed reports and documentation to management and regulatory bodies.

System Upgrades:
Work with engineering teams to implement relay protection system upgrades, ensuring compatibility with new technologies and safety standards.

Compliance & Safety:
Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices during all work activities. Adhere to all safety protocols when working with high-voltage equipment.

Emergency Support:
Respond to emergency outages or failures, diagnosing and repairing issues in a timely manner to restore service.

Collaboration & Support:
Collaborate with other technicians, engineers, and contractors to complete projects efficiently and within budget. Provide technical support and guidance to junior staff as needed.

Qualifications:

Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of experience working with relay protection systems, ideally in a substation or power generation environment.

Certifications & Skills:

Proficiency with relay testing equipment (e.g., Omicron, Doble, etc.) and SCADA systems.
Familiarity with protection schemes (e.g., overcurrent, distance, differential, etc.).
Knowledge of relay settings, configuration, and commissioning.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and protection coordination diagrams.

Technical Competencies:
Strong understanding of electrical power systems, including protection, control, and metering devices.
Ability to use diagnostic tools and test equipment to troubleshoot relay and system issues.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions, including confined spaces and outdoor settings.
Willingness to work at heights and with high-voltage equipment.
Additional Skills:
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
