The Black Book Resume Database.

The dynamic for finding a job on Roadtechs.com is changing. The old model was a recruiter posts a job and then waits for resumes to show up in their email in-box. With the new Black Book resume database, recruiters will be able to look for qualified candidates before they post the job. If they find the right job seekers in the Black Book, then they may not even post the job. This is why all Roadtechs.com job seekers should consider creating a Black Book profile and entering their information.

We welcome you to add your resume information to the Roadtechs.com Black Book system. There is no cost for the standard profile. For a small annual fee, you can up your profile to our Premium level. Premium profiles are moved to the top of recruiter resume searches and do not require quarterly log ins to keep the profile active. Standard resumes are still displayed and available for recruiter review, but they are positioned under the premium profiles and standard profiles must be logged into quarterly or they will expire.

Before you create a new account, take some time to get your resume information in order. The best way to do that is to have your resume file open in your word processor so you can cut and paste sections into your Roadtechs.com on-line profile. Help the recruiters find your resume by adding details of your work experience, education, etc. If you type "See resume for details", the recruiters probably won't bother to contact you. They are using this system to get those details and will pass by a "See resume" profile in favor of a profile that has enough detail to make a decision.

How do I apply for a job posted on Roadtechs?

If you see a job you think you might be interested in, and qualified for, open the original job post (not the replies) and follow the instructions in the post.

If there are no instructions on how to apply, then click on the e-mail link in the upper left-hand corner of the post (normally the poster's name or their shop name). Introduce yourself in the e-mail as you would any cover letter and then either attach your resume to the e-mail, or include it in the body. Make sure you spell check your documents, then send them off.

If you get a bad e-mail address, see if you can locate a good address in the Shops page.

The Email Link in the Job Post Doesn't Work.

If you click on the email link in a job post and nothing happens, or you get an error message, there may be a problem with your browser's program defaults. In the case of Microsoft's Internet Explorer, use the tools menu and then select programs. Make sure your default email program has been set up correctly. Other browsers should be similar.

What if the recruiter does not respond to my resume submission?

In the internet era, where a single user can send hundreds of resumes a day to various recruiters, and where a recruiter's job posting on Roadtechs.com may receive hundreds of resumes for a particular job, DO NOT expect that the recruiter will send you a resume receipt response or be updating you on the status of your resume. If your e-mail to the recruiter did not bounce back to you, then the recruiter has received your resume.

How do I create a post on a Job Board?

  1. Please review the types of posts that are allowed / not allowed above.
  2. You are posting information on the internet and it will be indexed and searchable by the search engines. If you do not want your name, address and phone number available to the entire internet, then do not post personal information on the job boards. A valid email address or URL is all you need to allow interested parties to contact you.
  3. From the Main menu, select your area (nuke, petro, etc.), then job board.
  4. Click on the "add a post to the (area) job board" link.
  5. The first field (required) asks if you are posting a job. If you are posting a job, even if you are not a shop, click the "y" button; otherwise, click the "n" button.
  6. Enter your company name (required) in the name field.
  7. Enter your email address (required) and make sure your email address is correct and properly formatted. If you use poorly formatted email addresses, then the jobseeker's email program may not be able to send you a reply. The only valid separator between email addresses is the semi-colon. If you would rather use a URL for applicants to apply, see the section below on adding an external link to your post.
If you're providing a link for applicants to use, and you would rather not receive emails from your post, then use the email address DoNotReply@roadtechs.com. This address is ignored when a post is displayed and applicants must use the website URL to apply. Please do not use the DoNotReply@roadtechs.com unless you are also using a website URL for applications or no one will be able to respond to your job post.

    What good looks like:

    • jim@domain.xyz
    • jim@domain.xyz; bob@domain.xyz; wendy@domain.xyz

    What bad looks like:
    • jim@www.domain.xyz (the www should not be included)
    • jim@domain.xyz,bob@domain.xyz (only semi-colons should be used as separators)
    • jim@domain.xyz:bob@domain.xyz (only semi-colons should be used as separators)
    • jim@domain.xyz(www.domain.xyz) (web addresses should not be included)

  8. Enter a subject (required) for your post. This will appear on the Job Board main page as the title of your post. Try to be descriptive and concise. Many people do not read the content of these posts.
Put the job title in the subject field - If you want your job post to end up in searches, then you have to put the actual job title in the subject field. You may want to add fun facts about where the job is located, but that should go in the body of the post. More often than not, people are using the search tools and job emails to get their job opportunities. If the actual job title (i.e. "millwright" or "design engineer") isn't in the subject (title) of the job post, then the post probably isn't going to be seen.
  9. The Job Title drop-down field when used with a valid email address for replies, will automatically search the Black Book resume database for possible candidates for your job posting and email them to you. It will also append a generic job title to the subject line of the post, allowing more consistent job searching. You must have a current Quarterly or Annual job posting subscription to have access to the Black Book resume database. New Black Book client users will be directed to a sign-up page to create an account.
Note: If you don't wish to receive these resume emails, just don't use the Job Title drop-down. Please note that this feature will not work when using a reply URL link and the DoNotReply@roadtechs.com email address.
  10. Enter your message (required). If you are not a strong speller, try creating your message in your word processor, spell check your work, and then copy it into a job board post. HTML code is not allowed in the message body.
  11. If you want to add an external link to your post where folks can apply for the position, then fill in the "optional link url" field. Use a standard web address like "www.myisp.com/apply".
  12. If you filled in the "optional link url", then you must fill in the "link title" field to give your link a name in your post (the name others will click on to access your link). Something like "Click here to apply would be fine.
  13. You can use the "optional image url" to add an external graphic to your post. Use a standard web address like "http://www.myisp.com/mypage/graphic.jpg".
  14. You should always enter a password in the optional password box. Entering a password will allow you to edit your post if you make a mistake. A password will also allow you to delete your own post if it is not a job or to mark the position as filled for job posts.
  15. Click in either the "I agree" or the "I do not agree" radio button. You must agree to the terms and conditions of the Roadtechs.com User Agreement to post on this site. If you check the "I do not agree" radio button, your information will not be posted.
  16. Verify your data, and then click the "post message" button. Only click the button once. If you don't see your post when you go back to the job board, use your browser's "Refresh" or "Reload" button to reload the page. If you click the button again, you will end up with multiple posts.

I'm not receiving resumes from my job post(s)

There are a few web hosts out there that have overly restrictive email spam filters that may bounce emails from users trying to send you a resume. If your email server is hosted by one of these restrictive hosts (like 1and1.com for example), then you may need to contact roadtechs.com to discuss alternatives. You can use our mail form here.

Why was my post removed?

Non-job posts are automatically removed after 21 days. After a couple of weeks, non-job posts are no longer being read and they dilute the function of the job boards, listing jobs.

The following types of posts will be removed from the Roadtechs.com site:

  1. Any post that does not follow the GENERAL POLICIES and GUIDELINES of ROADTECHS Internet Web Site.
  2. Replies with no significant content (i.e. just an e-mail address or phone number).
  3. Third-party job posts. Only shops are allowed to post jobs on the Roadtechs.com site.
  4. Non-job posts that are incorrectly marked as a job post (with [$$$]).
  5. Spam.
  6. Pornography.
  7. Unauthorized advertisements.
  8. Defamation of Utilities, Plants, Contract Shops, or contractors.
  9. Posting of resumes within any Job Board; (links to your resume within Roadtechs.com or another site are permitted).
  10. Posts that do not pertain to the region they are posting in (ex. I&C Tech posting availability for a job in the Electric Transmission and Distribution area).

Can I put html tags anywhere in my posts on the job boards?

Nope. You can't use HTML tags anywhere in the job boards. Due to abuse of the boards by spammers and porn posters, we have elected to turn off HTML tags in our posts. If you want to show your graphic in your post, there is a field for that purpose in the job board form. There is also a field for linking to an external web page.

Return to Index

Why didn't my post show up?

Your post most likely did not show up, because your browser did not reload the page, it simply pulled it out of cache. Please click the "Reload" or "Refresh" button on your browser and your post should appear.

How do I get my job post removed from Roadtechs?

Job posts are not normally deleted from the boards, they are marked as filled. We use this method as an indication to our users of bord activity. When a job post is marked as filled, all contact information is removed from the post and (Postion filled) is appended to the post title.
If you used a password when you originally posted:

If you didn't use a password in your original post, or the filled link does not appear in your post, you will have to use the e-mail link and have us (roadtechs.com) mark your post as filled. Use the "e-mail roadtechs" link from the main menu. When you are filling out the e-mail, we are going to need to know:

We'll usually get the post removed within 24 hours.

I'm Not Getting My Hotsheet - What Gives?

  1. Some days you may not receive a HotSheet email, it just means that no jobs were posted for your selected discipline in the previous 24 hours.
  2. Yahoo, Hotmail and maybe Gmail users: Due to some overly-enthusiastic spam filters, Yahoo, Hotmail and Gmail are bouncing Roadtechs.com job emails (Hotsheets). There isn't anything we can do about it. We suspect that some previous users have marked our Hotsheet emails as spam instead of properly unsubscribing. If you sign-up using Yahoo, Hotmail or Gmail and you're not getting the emails (either confirmation or the Hotsheet emails), then you can either use an email account from another (real, i.e. not free) domain, or take it up with Yahoo, Hotmail or Gmail and ask them to unblock out Hotsheets.
