Automation and Controls Logic Engineer

Location: Rockford, IL

Compensation: $95,000 - $112,000

Job Summary:
We are seeking a talented Automation Engineer and (CNC) Controls Engineer to develop and implement advanced control systems for CNC machines. The ideal candidate will have strong programming skills in high-level languages, extensive experience with various PLCs, and a deep understanding of machine tool types and machining processes. This role is crucial for enhancing the performance and functionality of our CNC systems, utilizing complex control architectures and motion control systems.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement high-level programming solutions using languages such as C, C++, C#, Visual Basic, and VB.net for CNC control systems.
- Program and configure Siemens CNC 840Dsl/Step 7 PLC and CNC Fanuc 30i/Fanuc Ladder systems, ensuring optimal performance and functionality.
- Work with Siemens, Fanuc, GE Fanuc, and Allen-Bradley PLCs, applying strong knowledge of their operational characteristics and programming methodologies.
- Utilize strong mathematical skills, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, to solve complex problems related to CNC motion control and control system architectures.
- Design and implement PLC programming platforms utilizing Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, STL, and other structured programming techniques.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop complex control system architectures and CNC motion control systems that enhance machining processes.
- Maintain and optimize existing control systems to improve reliability and efficiency, providing support for troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
- Stay current with advancements in networking technology, including protocols such as Ethernet, Profibus, and Profinet, to ensure seamless integration of control systems.
- Document programming solutions, control system designs, and operational procedures for future reference and training.

Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree in a technical field related to logic/controls engineering or a similar discipline.
- Proficiency in high-level programming languages (C, C++, C#, Visual Basic, VB.net).
- Experience with Siemens CNC 840Dsl/Step 7 PLC and CNC Fanuc 30i/Fanuc Ladder systems.
- Knowledge of Siemens, Fanuc, GE Fanuc, and Allen-Bradley PLC programming and operation.
- Strong understanding of various machine tool types, their functions, and typical machining processes.
- Familiarity with complex control system architectures and CNC motion control systems.
- Experience with PLC programming platforms, including Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, and STL.
- Strong mathematical skills, with proficiency in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Knowledge of structured programming techniques and advanced data structures.
- Familiarity with networking technologies and protocols such as Ethernet, Profibus, and Profinet is desired.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or automation environment.
- Understanding of Industry 4.0 concepts and smart manufacturing technologies.
