Fire Alarm Systems Inspector
Job Summary: The Fire Alarm Systems Inspector is responsible for conducting thorough inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm systems in various buildings and structures to ensure compliance with fire safety codes and regulations. This role is crucial in maintaining public safety and preventing potential fire hazards.
Salary: $40-$55 per hour plus overtime
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine inspections and testing of fire alarm systems, including control panels, detectors, alarms, and other components.
- Verify proper operation of fire alarm systems and equipment according to NFPA standards and local fire codes.
- Identify potential fire hazards and code violations during inspections.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports documenting findings, deficiencies, and recommendations.
- Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on fire alarm systems as needed.
- Communicate effectively with clients, building managers, and fire department officials regarding inspection results and corrective actions.
- Stay up-to-date with current fire safety codes, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Use specialized testing equipment such as multimeters, decibel meters, and battery analyzers.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and maintenance activities.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree in electronics or related field preferred.
- Massachusetts state issued License F or B.
- 2+ years of experience in fire alarm systems inspection, installation, or maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, IBC, and other relevant fire codes and standards.
- Proficiency in using computer software for reporting and documentation.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Travel:
- 100% regional travel in the greater Boston area.
- Work truck and gas card provided.
- Little to no office time ... report to first service area from home and park truck at home at the end of the shift.
- On call rotation -- receive extra compensation while on call.
- Time and a half pay for overtime and answering calls after hours during the week.
- Double pay when responding during the weekend - 3-hrs guaranteed.
- Triple pay when responding during holidays - 3-hrs guaranteed.
