Job Summary:
PIC Group has an excellent opportunity for a Manager – Engineering Projects to lead critical engineering initiatives in Anchorage, Alaska. This role is essential for overseeing the design and construction of transmission, sub-transmission, substation, distribution, and switchyard facilities, as well as other key projects. As the Manager - Engineering Projects, you will build and guide a high-performing team, set department objectives, and streamline processes to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Your strategic vision and ability to implement industry-leading project management tools will be crucial to the success of this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Lead the planning, scheduling, and execution of major engineering projects from start to finish, ensuring alignment with project timelines and budgets.
• Manage and mentor a team of engineers, providing clear direction, support, and performance feedback to foster professional growth.
• Oversee contract administration for procurement, construction, and engineering services, ensuring all contractual obligations are met.
• Develop detailed work plans and specifications for the construction of distribution, sub-transmission, transmission, and substation facilities.
• Utilize advanced project management tools to monitor budgets and ensure timely project delivery.
• Serve as the primary liaison with internal departments, external agencies, consulting firms, and vendors to facilitate smooth project coordination.
• Present project updates, budgets, and performance reports to the Board of Directors and other key stakeholders.
• Ensure all projects comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA and National Electrical Safety Code standards.
Job Requirements:
• Thorough knowledge of electric utility systems, operations, and construction practices, especially those used in Alaska.
• Understanding of RUS design and construction requirements, the National Electrical Safety Code, OSHA regulations, and material specifications.
• Proficient in project management tools and techniques, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
• Strong supervisory skills with the ability to manage and develop effective working relationships.
• Skilled in recognizing electrical system needs and providing effective solutions that balance technical, economic, and environmental requirements.
• Proficiency in using word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and project management software.
• Proficiency in electrical, mechanical, and architectural design, including foundations and structures.
• Experience with high-voltage (115 kV and greater) land and submarine cables is preferred.
• Experience in organizing and supervising work groups and coordinating designs with internal departments and external agencies.
• Experience working in a union environment is preferred.
Physical/Travel Requirements:
• The role involves a combination of office work and field visits for inspections, sometimes in challenging weather conditions.
• Occasional travel, including fixed-wing aircraft and helicopter trips, is required.
• The position is subject to 24/7 on-call duties.
Education / Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required, with electrical engineering preferred.
• Additional specialized training in electric utility design, construction, and accounting is preferred.
• Alaska Professional Engineer registration or eligibility to obtain registration within one year preferred.
• A master’s degree in project management or PMP certification is preferred.
• 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in engineering design or construction with 3+ years of supervisory and project management experience.
