Location: Mobile, AL

NSC Staffing is currently seeking a skilled A-Class Structural Fitter for an exciting opportunity in the shipbuilding and repair industry. This position offers a dynamic and rewarding career for experienced fitters who are ready to contribute to the construction and repair of marine vessels. Position Overview:

As an A-Class Structural Fitter, you will be responsible for performing tasks related to the fabrication, fitting, and installation of structural components on marine vessels. Your duties will include layout, fit-up, welding preparation, and using a variety of shipfitting tools and equipment. This role requires proficiency in reading blueprints and technical drawings, ensuring work is completed with precision and in accordance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Structural Fitting: Perform shipfitting tasks such as layout, cutting, sniping, grinding, sanding, prepping, tacking, and the fit-up of plates with minimal supervision.
Tool Operation: Safely use and operate craft-related tools and equipment, including grinders, band saws, millers, burr motors, and more.
Work Completion: Accurately complete daily work assignments and ensure all work is documented and signed off for quality and safety compliance.
Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering sketches, diagrams, and construction drawings to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
Safety Compliance: Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to all safety, quality, environmental, and health regulations and policies.
Training and Mentoring: Work with and train lower-skilled workers as needed.
Adaptability: Flexibility to work various shifts and accept additional tasks, including those outside of the craft.
Qualifications & Experience:

Experience: Minimum 1 year as a B-Class Fitter at the company or 2 years in a related industry.
Certification: Must pass the approved A-Class Fitter test.
Skills: Ability to interpret and work from construction drawings, job specifications, instruction manuals, and contract specifications.
Technical Proficiency: Thorough knowledge of equipment, work processes, and techniques used in measuring, fitting, and welding aluminum and steel components.
Mathematical Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and measure using the metric system.
Knowledge: Familiarity with shipyard terminology, vessel layout, and weld joint details.
Physical Demands:

Physical Capabilities: Must be able to perform tasks such as bending, squatting, kneeling, and lifting up to 75 lbs. on occasion. Ability to climb ladders, work at heights above 12 feet, and work in confined spaces.
PPE: Must be able to wear and utilize personal protective equipment, including hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, and more.
Work Environment: Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, noisy environments, and exposure to mechanical parts and airborne particles.
Work Environment:

This position is based in a fast-paced shipyard environment where you will be exposed to various work conditions such as humid environments, moving mechanical parts, high places, and fluctuating temperatures. The noise level can be very loud, and there may be occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals.
