QA Inspector
Technical/associate degree, preferably Q.A./Marine-related or equivalent, or 4 to 6 years of Quality Assurance inspection experience or equivalent trade related. Certified as a Non-Destructive Test Inspector Level II (includes VT, PT, MT, and UT) to NAVSEA TECHPUB requirements. If not certified, must be able to be certified if assigned these duties. Certified in accordance with the NAVSEA Basic Paint Inspector (NBPI) course, NACE International Coating Inspector Program (CIP) Level 1 or higher, or SSPC Protective Coating Inspector Program (PCI) Level 2. Knowledge of ship construction and repair procedures including welding, structural, machinery, electrical piping, ventilation, and familiarity with various measuring instruments related to inspections.
Required Experience
Must be able to perform the essentials of the position including the ability to work at heights, enter tanks, voids, and cofferdams to perform competent person duties.
Must be able to climb vertical ladders, work around moving machinery and perform tasks while using a sky climber, scissor lift and/or condor.
Ability to read and understand blueprints, military standard/specifications, Regulatory Body Requirements, and Shipbuilding Specifications.
Possess a good general knowledge of ship repair procedures and test requirements.
Skilled in blueprint reading, precision instrument utilization, and technical manual interpretation.
Able to set, self-calibrate and use assigned testing, inspection, and QA instruments.
Fundamental problem-solving skills. Able to use basic Lean and Six Sigma principles to provide recommended solutions to identified or perceived problems.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Computer literate
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, decisiveness, resourcefulness, and good judgment in dealing with others.
Witnesses or performs and documents (I) (V) and (G) point inspections and other test at key points in the work process.
Creates written records to document the inspection results and provide supporting documentation to the Test and Inspection plan.
Ensure all QA inspection equipment being utilized is calibrated and is certified under the company’s calibration process/programs.
Technical knowledge in using various measuring devices.
Evaluate results from tests and inspections to determine acceptability.
Has the authority to accept, reject or rework defective or malfunctioning units as per procedures. Responsible for managing OQE documentation for work assigned to them.
Responsible for receipt inspections.
Apply testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results.
Conduct in-process inspections to ensure correct materials, proper fabrication and installation procedures are utilized during the production process. Perform monitoring and surveillance of shipboard production processes for compliance to standards requirements. Research standards and specification requirements to develop monitoring/surveillance plans.
Review all Work Specification items, drawings, technical manuals, NAVSEA Standard Items or other contract documentation to ensure all Testing and Inspection requirements are identified or captured in the TIP.
