Weld America: Superintendent

Purpose:

Weld America, a division of Colonna's Shipyard, is seeking a Superintendent to support a project in Norfolk, VA.

Job Description:
Successfully complete project planning & estimating as needed.
Participate in project turn over meetings with the estimator or team that will include budget set� up, preparation of work packages, and monitoring/tracking progress through the completion of the project.
Interfaces with clients and other contractors and provides technical assistance as required.
Plans and manages projects including scheduling, engineering, fabrication, material control, logistics and purchases.
Assists with the establishment and execution of production schedules to ensure product data such as types, quantities, specifications of materials and scheduled delivery dates are in order.
Monitors craft supervisors to ensure that schedules are updated for production meetings and charts.
Direct and coordinate technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure workers' compliance with established procedures, restrictions, and standards.
Works closely with the Director to plan and schedule production operations, establish priorities and sequences of work for projects.
Manage project resource allocation.
Provide direction and support to project team.
Monitor and report productivity and understand and act upon instruction.
Draft Condition Reports and submit requisitions for materials and subcontracts.
Responsible for interviewing Welders and working with HR to process applicants.
Maintain log of welder�s certifications and badging.
Managing timecards including customer timesheet approvals.
Provide a definitive plan, leadership and technical guidance to all team members as required.
Meet with supervisors and employees throughout the day to exchange status updates.
Must review and accept work packages.
Assure the jobs are completed safely, on schedule, within budget and with no rework.
Arrange and coordinate outside vendors working within the shop.
Maintain weekly job assignment reports.
Efficiently manage shop overtime.
Monitor backlog and adjust department work schedules accordingly
Qualifications:
Must have at least 10 years� experience in the following: heavy industrial/marine fabrication construction (not constructing buildings), project management, planning, estimating, and contract negotiations
Must have at least 5 years� experience in project analysis, take-off, and estimating in industrial heavy fabrication projects.
Must have at least 5 years� experience with contracts management, scheduling, man loading and change order negotiation.
Must have at least 5 years� experience in problem solving, & contract administration.
Requires independent judgment with an ability to anticipate production issues in advance.
Must have strong problem solving and interpersonal skills
Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with governmental/commercial personnel, employees, and management
Must have strong attention to detail and documentation
Must possess extensive knowledge in welding, fitting and burning processes, coatings (marine and structural) processes, construction manufacturing processes, materials and costing methods.
Must possess extensive knowledge of heavy fabrication & welding methods, materials, and practices.
Must have experience in computerized estimating, planning, charting systems.
Must have working knowledge of engineering and design concepts.
Must have working knowledge of AWS, AISC, and ASME code/certification requirements.
Must have knowledge of CNC and manual machining is preferred
Must have strong PC skills to include Micro so ft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Microsoft Project, and working knowledge of AutoCAD.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Musty have strong mathematical skills and ability.
Must be a steady, reliable worker with regular, reliable attendance.
Must be able to work independently to complete responsibilities.
Desired Qualifications:
Prefer and Engineering or Management Degree (Structural Engineering or Construction Management) preferred or the equivalent experience.
Security Requirements:
Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a TWIC Card.
Travel Requirements:
Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs.
Must be physically agile to perform tasks in naval ships. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and moving through manholes.
May ride ships at sea for extended periods
Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts.
While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl.
Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation
Frequent use of respirator.
Protective clothing or equipment and face shields or goggles shall be worn when welding, cutting, or working with molten metal.
