Job Description
** Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a nationally recognized professional staffing and recruiting firm that is looking for an experienced Chemical Technician to fill a one-year assignment in the Rincon, GA area.


This position may require some bending, lifting, climbing, prolonged sitting, prolonged walking, walking on gravel or crawling when necessary.

Rates: $32.00 - $39.00 per hour
No per diem is paid.

REQUIRED PPE:
Hard Hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, high-vis vest, steel toe footwear, natural fiber clothing

Candidates must qualify on the EEI Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH) pre-employment test

Work is conducted both inside and outside, sometimes in the elements such as rain and/or cold.
Ability to work in an environment that could include chemical fumes, hazardous and/or toxic chemical
Availability for call-out and overtime is required; willingness and ability to work long hours, as needed
Ability to work in extreme noise and vibration
Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs

Note: Please make sure candidates understand that this position does not consist of only bench testing but also includes analyzer maintenance, field collection of samples, operation of equipment in water treatment plants, inspection of equipment and vessels, and treatment of chemical systems.


Qualifications:
BS or BA degree in Chemistry or other field of physical science with a MINIMUM of 12 semester hours in Chemistry required
5 to 10 years of experience
Prior experience and knowledge of boiler/water analysis preferred
Previous work experience in a water treatment plant preferred
Experience and competency in the use, calibration and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation/equipment
Knowledge of proper analytical methods and techniques
Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred
Knowledge and experience in production of deionized water is preferred
Previous experience in large water treatment facility is preferred, including operating and maintaining filtration, reverse osmosis and de-ionization systems.


Job Duties:
Responsible for assisting chemists performing technical, analytical, and operational services essential to the functioning of a Combined Cycle power plant and Combustion Turbine facility
Working safely and being accountable for your safety and the safety of your coworkers
Operation and maintenance of various types of water treatment plant equipment, pump and analyzer operation, as well as ensuring water quality through appropriate testing to ensure high quality make-up
Operation and maintenance of Low Volume Wastewater Pond and associated equipment
Provide chemical protection of the steam generating equipment to minimize outages, protect equipment, and prevent loss of efficiency due to corrosion and deposits in the steam/water cycle components.
Work to ensure effective water management
Ensure effective condenser and cooling tower operation through effective chlorination process and routine monitoring
Ensure monitoring and treatment of plant closed loop cooling systems
Conduct all required sampling as per Chemistry program and regulatory requirements
Calibrate and maintain laboratory and on-line equipment and benchtop instrumentation, performing QA/QC as needed and required
Support quality unit start-ups and shutdowns when required
Maintain bulk chemical and laboratory supplies and inventory
Assist regulatory compliance personnel to help ensure compliance with applicable environmental, safety and health regulations; assist with environmental reporting and sampling, as needed
Have good working knowledge of the plant clearance/LOTO procedure
Understand and adhere to plant confined space procedure
Support plant air-in-leakage efforts
Inventory lab equipment, reagents, and supplies and order as needed
Assist with data gathering for monthly chemistry reporting
Ensure all laboratory areas meet housekeeping standards outlined by the plant
