Title: Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Technician

Job Summary:
The Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all instruments, control systems and electrical equipment in the power plant and the associated facilities. The Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Technician performs work of high skill in the inspection repair, testing, adjustment, installation and removal of all electronic and electrical power plant equipment and systems. The Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Technician provides advice on matters pertaining to O&M activities, plant improvement projects, contract obligations, plant owner requests, and third-party activities. Ensures professional communications with, and extends support to, Regulatory personnel, Owner representatives, vendors and visitors, and other stakeholders
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Measure and maintain the reliability and performance of plant control systems and instruments involving such work as inspecting, testing, and diagnosing the operating conditions of the various plant components.
• Inspect, repair, install, and remove all types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries, and work with electrical systems up to and including 345,000 volts.
• Calibrating, testing, troubleshooting, and inspecting plant instrumentation and transmitters, control components, and relay protection systems.
• Perform preventive and minor maintenance on all plant equipment as required by the O&M Manager and in accordance with plant policy.
• Understand and comply with the plant lockout/tagout system, electrical safety, and other plant safety, regulatory, and operational procedures.
• Maintain records in a professional manner. Input data into the plant Computerized Maintenance Management System for corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance and compliance records
• Supervise vendors conducting work on the plant site and report status of activities to the O&M Manager.
• Support material management procurement, such as quotations, requests for proposals, service contracts, bid comparisons, purchase requisitions, and blanket purchase orders.
• Assist in the planning, scheduling, and conducting of preventive, corrective, and overhaul maintenance of all power plant equipment.
• Complete other tasks as requested by the O&M Manager.
Job Requirements:
• The successful candidate should be able to read and understand corporate programs, policies, procedures and instructions specific to the O&M Agreement. Qualifications must include the following:
• Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals and P&ID's.
• Thorough knowledge of the location, purpose, and proper use of the plant safety equipment, and of equipment isolation and tagging procedures.
• Proficient in the use of hand and power-driven tools, test equipment, and other analysis devices.
• Ability to apply creative solutions to unique I&C problems is desirable.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Willing and available for emergency call-in work outside of normal working hours as conditions dictate.
Education / Experience:
• Completion of a recognized Electrical Apprenticeship Program and 3 out of the last 5 years’ journey-level experience as an Electrician in the industrial maintenance field.
• 5 years of work experience as a plant technician with increasing responsibility in a related industry may be accepted in lieu of the above requirement.
• Experience in working on equipment with voltage ratings of 4,160 volts and greater is highly desired.
