Job Description

** Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a nationally recognized professional staffing and recruiting firm that is looking for an experienced Structural Engineer to fill a three- year assignment in the Birmingham, AL area.

This position may require some bending, lifting, climbing, prolonged sitting, prolonged walking, walking on gravel or crawling when necessary.

Rates: $45.00 - $50.00

Contract: 3 years estimated duration

Requirements:

Candidates must live within 1 hour of Birmingham, AL 35243. Initially, they will need to work in the office for onboarding and learning how the projects are done. After that they can work remotely.

The Structural Engineer 2 position requires 5-7 years heavy industrial/power plant experience and an accredited bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

Professional Engineering registration is a plus, but not required.

Design experience with electric utility transmission structures is a plus, but not required.

Job responsibilities include:

Providing structural engineering services and field support

Conducting preparation of designs and calculations

Conducting site visits

Producing and checking structural steel design calculations and drawings.

Skillsets and expertise required for this position include:

Detailed knowledge of structural steel and concrete design principles and industry methodologies

Significant structural steel connection design experience

Proficiency with structural codes and standards

Extensive knowledge of heavy industrial structures and components

Strong computer skills - proficiency with structural computer programs such as MathCAD and STAAD PRO

Working knowledge of ANSYS

Working knowledge of OSHA regulations

Able to coordinate and manage multiple small to mid-sized, single or multi-discipline projects

Able to perform structural inspections and provide written reports

Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities

The ability to build effective relationships with internal customers, design engineering staff and/or vendors.
