Status:               Non-Exempt

Job Summary:  
PIC Group has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Operations Technician to support a 312 MW gas fired power plant located in Chicago, IL.  The Operations Technician reports directly to the Plant Manager and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the facility.  The Operations Technician will perform all operations functions, as well as preventive and corrective maintenance under the direction and supervision of site management. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•    Day-to-day operation of equipment to run the facility.
•    Provide troubleshooting and root cause analysis of operational issues, providing the required reports to management.
•    Performs daily maintenance, overhauls, calibration, repair/replacement and removal/installation of plant equipment and systems.
•    Makes decisions and recommends appropriate repair techniques for plant equipment to peers, supervisors, and plant management.
•    Conducts excitation system inspections and preventive maintenance when required.
•    Effectively operate material handling equipment as needed.
•    Develops and implements plant operating procedures as needed.
•    Understands relationship of equipment to plant systems.
•    Comply with all safety, health and environmental procedures as they relate to plant operations and maintenance, including but not limited to Lockout Tagout, Job Safety Analysis, Confined Space, Hot Work, Electrical Safety and PPE.

Job Requirements:
•    Proficiency with using a computer, MS Excel, MS Word, and Outlook programs.
•    Must possess effective oral and written communications skills with all levels of personnel.
•    Must be organized and pay close attention to detail.
•    Effectively manage multiple projects at once with a sense of urgency.
•    Competent with completing various reports as requested by management.
•    Ability to troubleshoot and make decisions to protect the safety and wellbeing of the site. 
•    Must be able to work overtime and standby status as required by site.

Physical Requirements:
•    Ability to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of equipment, accurately read and interpret instruments and gauges, and communicate clearly on portable radios.
•    Ability to respond to plant emergencies in a timely manner.
•    Ability to perform demanding work on heights under adverse conditions and when participating in emergency activities.
•    Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and enter confined spaces as required.
•    Able to lift 50lbs.
•    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
•    Ability to pass respirator physical and fit test.

Education / Experience:
•    High School diploma required.
•    5+ years of related operations and/or mechanical experience in a power plant.
