System Analysis & Relay Expert / SME
Project: NSSS Power Uprate projects
Work Location: Full Time Onsite or Part Remote (please reach out to discuss variables to decide which works best for you)
Pay Rate: Not Defined / need Candidate’s requested rate
Duration: Initially One Year w/ annual extensions expected
Schedule: (4) Ten Hour Days / week
Position / Scope: The System Analysis & Relay Expert will provide strategic long range asset management focus to transmission and distribution system protection systems. Review yearly preventative and corrective maintenance data and make decisions as necessary to optimize the system protection maintenance program. Represents Owner as a prime technical contact on regional and national committees and interacts with industry peers on significant technical matters in the system protection area.
Job Responsibilities
• Must be able to understand, apply and implement NERC PRC, NERC CIP, RFC, and PJM compliance standards to ensure compliance.
• Performs emergency relay setting calculations for all types of transmission and distribution equipment.
• Performs technical peer reviews of relay settings.
• Provide guidance and leadership to engineering associates in the development of relay specifications for projects, relay settings, relay testing routines and maintenance of the relay test manual.
• Initiates, directs and performs root cause analysis of highly complex equipment or system failures.
• Provide engineering and technical solutions for unusually complex problems.
• Independently make decisions to resolve major equipment problems or system crises and assists in restoration of same.
• Review and approve distributed generation (DG) connections.
• Maintain and apply working knowledge of Standards for Business Controls and meet management’s expectations for effective internal business controls.
• Performs review of capital project one line control and tripping table drawings.
• Creates and reviews Feasibility Analysis Requests in support of the Capital Project Plan.
Job Specific Qualifications
Required:
• BS Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 10 years industry experience of protective relays and system protection.
• Practical and theoretical knowledge of transmission and distribution protection (including protection of transmission lines and the required communication schemes, distribution lines, transformers, buses, capacitors, reactors, breaker failure, etc.).
• Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Applicant must have effective problem-solving and decision-making skills, strong planning and organizing skills, must be adaptable and be results-oriented.
• Ability to cover “on call” assignments to handle emergency work and assist during system emergency situations.
• Because the job requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid driver's license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.
Desired:
• Master’s degree in engineering
• NJ Professional Engineering License.
• Advanced technical training and/or PhD
