Mechanical Design Engineer
Project: Power Uprate projects - NSSS, DVR
Work Location: Full Time Onsite or Part Remote (please reach out to discuss variable to decide which you prefer)
Pay Rate: Not Defined / need Candidate’s requested rate
Duration: Initially One Year w/ annual extensions expected
Schedule: (4) Ten Hour Days / week
Job Description & Responsibilities:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for providing technical support and expertise to the Engineering Services department for a Nuclear Extended Power Uprate Project (EPU). The successful candidate will perform the duties as a Lead Responsible Engineer (LRE) for modifications needed to support the power uprate. The LRE is responsible for:
• Determining solutions and managing resources needed to prepare the applicable design deliverables;
• Performing the duties of a Design Engineer for design modifications;
• Qualifying for and fulfilling the LRE role for the power uprate plant modifications and be accountable for the design "cradle to grave";
• Establishing modification scope, system performance requirements, and all testing requirements;
• Performing Owners Acceptance Reviews for design analysis, modification packages, procurement, and specifications in accordance with plant procedures;
• Managing technical supplier teams with respect to cost, schedule, and quality;
• Scheduling and coordinating Engineering and station department resources to deliver and install required design change packages;
• Interfacing with Project Manager to ensure that Engineering deliverables meet the overall project goals;
• Providing field support during modification walkdowns, installation, testing and as-built verification;
• Complying with regulatory requirements including 50.59, License Amendment Request preparation and any required supporting analysis;
• Performing other assigned duties as determined by the Engineering Manager
Required Qualifications:
• Must meet Nuclear requirements for unescorted plant access
• Must possess a valid US driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driving record
• Must be a US citizen or permanent resident
• Must have a minimum of a BS Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Controls or Engineering with 13 years of experience performing Engineering work in a nuclear power plant or the power generation industry
• Must have a minimum of 7+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience at a Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) Nuclear Power Plant and previous EPU Project Support is highly desired.
• Prior Design Engineering configuration control qualification
• Professional Engineering license (NJ or other state)
Physical Requirements:
The Mechanical Design Engineer will need to be able to sit for long periods of time but also support walkdowns, installation and testing. This might include the ability to lift up 50 lb., walking, crawling, climbing ladders, or walking for extended periods. The Mechanical Design Engineer’s vision must be able to accommodate the following:
• Being able to see and respond to various situations within the plant (involving awareness of surroundings)
• Using a computer screen for long periods of time
Lastly, the Mechanical Design Engineer might be required to be available for shift work or a change in job schedule during installation.
