Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Principal Engineer-Mechanical opportunity to support the Savannah River Site.
Work Location: Aiken, SC

Principal Engineer-Mechanical-
Define scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to challenges which involve unique or controversial problems.
Creatively meet all company and industry requirements and apply site systems to achieve quality, timely and cost-effective results.
Give quality guidance and assistance to less senior professionals on related tasks.
Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, to resolve complex problems.
Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.
Provide direction and position responsibility both inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new applications of existing engineering or scientific principles.
Evaluate the results of programs and prepare reports and recommendations based on these evaluations.
Identify and recommend improvements where established technology components and methodology are inadequate for solution.
Keep informed of the advancement of technology as applied through one's area of technology.
Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving technical tasks identified by management.
Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed.
Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscripts form to customers colleagues and management.
Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.
Enhance expertise in field through leadership in local technical societies.
Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles.
Education/Yrs. Of Experience:
Ph.D. degree in applicable science or engineering discipline and five (5)’ + years' experience OR a MS with eight (8) + years’ experience OR a BS with ten (10) + years’ experience or more.
Skills/Experience:
Ten (10) years of recent design experience, four (4) of which shall include process pressure protection.
Possess a working knowledge of Codes and Standards applicable to process piping, such as ANSI/ASME B31.3.
General knowledge of electrical/control systems, connection diagrams, layout plans, logic diagrams, panel layout details, P&ID’s, and structure loading calculations and Deactivation and Decommissioning of Facilities.
Able to walk-down facilities and systems in non-climate-controlled environments.
Knowledge of Construction Codes and Standards. (such as Internation building code 2021, SC)
Produce written documents with clearly organized structure and grammar.
Ability to operate Windows Microsoft Office applications.
Communicate orally with management, project team members and DOE Customers regarding ACP project scope.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with 2D MicroStation Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD).
Previous SRS Design Engineering experience.
Familiarity with DOE Orders/Guides, EPA and SCDHEC Regulations with regards to Environmental Remediation and/or Facility Disposition.
