Position Summary
The Instruments and Controls (I&C) technician is responsible for the Instruments and Controls maintenance of Power Generating Station Units and auxiliary systems including both conventional steam units and Combustion Gas Turbines. This position will require the successful candidate to troubleshoot instrument and control problems, perform preventive, predictive and repair maintenance.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Perform service and calibration of all primary instrument field elements.
Analyze and troubleshoot equipment issues and ensure the timely resolution of problems and interpret computerized data collection systems.
Troubleshoot, maintain and repair all aspects of a control system including digital, analog, DCS, Burner management, PLC’s (function block and ladder) and plant air systems.
Troubleshoot Electrical Issues and make necessary repairs.
Understanding and troubleshooting Direct Current Systems for plant backup and control systems.
Calculate and determine settings for specific motors, feeder cables, overload protection for electrical equipment in accordance with the NEC.
Plan and collaborate on layout of jobs including parts/equipment identification and ordering.
Perform predictive and preventive maintenance on various plant systems
Execute lockout-tagout procedures.
Interpret and modify/update electrical drawings Implement technical information found in manufacturer’s manuals, electrical drawings, blueprints, P&IDs, and operating/maintenance procedures.
Design and implementation of ridged conduit, PVC, EMT, and cable tray for new and existing equipment.
Maintain and upgrade boiler flame scanners, annunciator panels, generators, and related auxiliaries.
Understanding and working knowledge of Distributed Control Systems and Programmable Logic Controllers.
Maintain, calibrate and repair all instrument final elements including actuators, positioners, gauges valves, etc.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or the equivalent (GED)
2-year associate degree in electrical technology preferred.
Minimum of four (4) years’ Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) experience in electric generation, chemical plant or other large industrial environment or facility.
Working knowledge of control systems including: Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers and associated HMI’s.
Familiarity with the following Control platforms: Bailey (ABB) DCS, Allen Bradley PLC 5, ControlLogix preferred.
