Principal Project Manager
Location: Chattanooga, TN
Contract Duration: 2 years
Travel: Up to 40% to plant sites as needed
System One is seeking an experienced Principal Project Manager to lead and oversee nuclear projects for our client in Chattanooga, TN. This role requires exceptional leadership and project management skills to manage a multi-disciplinary team and deliver high-impact projects.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Project Oversight:
- Direct and manage projects from planning through completion, including post-project analysis.
- Lead multi-discipline teams, including internal and external resources, to achieve project objectives.
Project Planning and Execution:
- Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, budgets, and timelines, while ensuring alignment with company procedures.
- Provide clear and consistent communication of project expectations to stakeholders.
- Actively manage project performance, including scope, schedule, budget, and risk.
Budget and Resource Management:
- Prepare and manage project budgets exceeding $200 million, making recommendations for adjustments as needed.
- Identify, estimate, and secure necessary resources to achieve project goals.
- Utilize cost-estimating practices to integrate budget management into project plans.
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Track progress, milestones, and deliverables to ensure deadlines are met.
- Provide regular updates on project status, risks, and issues to management and stakeholders.
- Present progress reports with solutions for project challenges.
Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate potential risks, developing contingency plans as necessary.
- Minimize project exposure and take action, including issuing stop-work orders, when risks are identified.
Team Management:
- Assign responsibilities, provide direction, and mentor team members.
- Conduct performance evaluations and ensure a qualified, experienced team is in place.
- Oversee and coordinate contractor work as required.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a technical field (Master’s degree preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum of 15 years of project management experience in the utility industry or equivalent functional areas.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale projects and lead diverse teams.
Certifications:
- PMP Certification required.
- Additional professional certifications/licensure (e.g., PE, CPA) preferred but not required.
Skills and Attributes:
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Expertise in resolving complex technical and non-technical issues.
- Proficiency with project management tools and methodologies.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to manage stakeholder expectations effectively.
