Principal Engineer - Technical Support Specialist

SUMMARY:
Provide advanced expertise and support to SRNS operations to resolve broad to abstract technical issues with division and site-wide implications. Specific support provided will differ according to the assignment but generally include directing, planning, developing, implementing, and administering
technical operations-related programs. Ensure technical aspects of operations or maintenance programs comply with governing directives.
Responsible for directing, planning, developing, implementing, and budgeting for various technical functions in support of the pre-conceptual design, construction, and start-up of process and testing facilities. Interface and negotiate with vendors to resolve equipment, services, staffing, and technical-related issues. Evaluate and analyze equipment, instruments, and procedures needed to upgrade operations programs. Evaluate, test, and procure new equipment and instruments supporting assigned operations programs. Ensure technical aspects of operations programs comply with applicable laws, standards, and DOE Orders. Develop operating procedures and training programs to train less qualified technicians on various types of equipment and instruments. Serve on various committees regarding standardization of equipment, instrumentation, processes, and training in support of SRNS and DOE operations programs. The direct daily activity of less qualified technicians serves as an area point of contact for the most complex technical issues.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
A bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering is preferred, along with a minimum of 8 - 12 years of related experience.
An Associate's degree and 12 - 15 years of practical experience would substitute for the higher degree requirement.
A high school diploma and 4-6 additional years of practical experience would also be considered equivalent.
A considerable amount of creativity may be required to address unique and new problem areas.
Solutions and alternatives to problems generally impact sitewide operations in the face of substantial time constraints and are highly reactive.
Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals result in additional costs and will likely cause irrevocable delays in overall schedules.
Directs less qualified technical support specialists to meet schedules and resolve technical issues.
Develops and administers schedules and performance requirements
The preferred candidate will demonstrate at least 20 years of operations or maintenance experience in the Tritium Facilities (NNSA) or the commercial nuclear industry. (Preferred)
Candidate preferably will have been certified/qualified in one of the Tritium Facilities as an FLM, Planner, or SOM (preferred)
Previous experience with using and implementing Department of Energy (DOE) Order (O) 433.1B, Maintenance Management Program for DOE Nuclear Facilities, 1Y-8.20, 4B Manual, 2S Manual Conduct of Operation, and related directives and standards. (preferred)
Demonstrated proficiency in the development, review, and execution of Maintenance programs (preferred)
Demonstrated previous Tritium experience (preferred)
