Duties and Responsibilities
Provide expert project management support in the areas of scheduling, estimating, planning,
project execution and strategic planning in relation to Fire Protection Engineering for alarm and
detection systems to assist in resolution of very broad to abstract technical issues that may
have division and/or Site wide implications.
Perform Fire Protection Engineering assessments, project leadership assessments, and ensure
technical aspects of engineering, operations or maintenance programs are in compliance with
governing directives.
Provide mentoring to junior fire protection personnel in regard to project execution, design
authority engineering, and fire protection engineering activities.
Lead and/or participate in major project reviews such as contractor team reviews for
engineering services which shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures.
Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS.
Provide consultation on all aspects of the plutonium facility operations to include multi-shift
operations, BG operations (acquisition/operability/constructability), waste management and
radiological operations.
Advise and support management in development of integrated team structure, leading
identification of mission objectives and performance evaluation.
Provide oversight and leadership of support operations, possibly involving multiple projects and
groups of personnel.
Education
Master’s degree in a fire protection engineering with 25 years broad experience in
fire protection engineering, operations, marketing, strategic and business planning, or a
bachelor’s degree in fire protection engineering with 30 years of experience as described
above. If not degreed as described, must have 35 or more years of fire protection engineering
related work experience with government facilities or projects with certification as National Fire
Protection Administration (NFPA) Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS)
Experience/Skills
30 or more years working at the Savannah River Site is preferred. Candidate
must demonstrate a minimum of 20 years of experience with Alarm and Detection systems.
Ability to provide associated code requirements and review design documents associated with
new installations and modification to existing fire alarm and detection systems. Capacity to
identify installation, maintenance, inspection, testing, commissioning, and code compliance
required as the Subject Matter Expert in the field. Expert knowledge of applicable NFPA Codes
and Standards applicable to fire detection and alarm systems. Ability to gather data, compile
information and provide written and oral reports to management.
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidate must be able to perform field walk-downs of the job site that may involve
construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances over a half
mile, climbing ladders to access remote areas, dressing out in protective clothing and
environments where a respirator is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- NICET certification Level IV in Fire Alarm Systems
- 30 or more years working at the Savannah River Site is preferred.
- PE License in the state of SC
- Active DOE “L” or “Q” security clearance
