UDR is seeking qualified candidates for a Principal Quality Assurance/Control Engineer opportunity for our customer in Aiken, SC to support the Savannah River Site.

DUTIES


Define scope of technical and quality engineering programs and develop effective, quality solutions to
challenges which involve unique or controversial problems. Creatively meet all company and industry
requirements and apply site systems to achieve quality, cost-effective, and timely results. Give quality
guidance to less senior professionals on related tasks.

Apply technical and quality engineering experience in field of specialization to resolve complex
problems. Incorporate advanced technical and quality engineering practices and a variety of complex
features such as: complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes,
and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning. Provide
leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a
functional area of technical and quality engineering specialization.

Provide direction and position responsibility both inside and outside department lines on programs
seeking new approaches to problems and new application of existing engineering and quality assurance
principles; evaluate the results of programs through surveillances, monitoring, assessments, and reviews;
prepare reports and recommendations based on these evaluations; and, identify and recommend
improvements where established technology, methodology, and procedures are inadequate for solution.
Keep informed of the advancement of technology and requirements as applied within one's area of
specialization and expertise.

Develop QA programs and procedures and ensure compliance and effective execution of technical and
quality assurance requirements within the assigned facility or program area. Be accountable for
compliance with the approved schedules and that personnel under one's technical guidance are
appropriately trained and effectively utilized.

Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving technical and quality
engineering tasks identified by management. Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures
of budget and review quality of work completed to ensure that technical and quality requirements are met.

Serve on a Facility Review Board, providing QA expertise in support of facility start-up and/or operation.
Support facility/project needs within the assigned area by conducting procurement, procedure, and work
package reviews.

Communicate objectives and results to customers, colleagues, and management. Prepare reports,
professional papers, and articles for internal publication; Occasionally prepare reports for external
publication. Communicate with DOE-SR personnel regarding QA Program and corrective action status.

Enhance expertise in field through leadership in local technical societies. May also participate in national
technical societies, advanced studies, or national consensus standards committees.

Demonstrate commitment to TQ concepts by active participation and successful implementation of Div./
Dept. TQ initiatives.

Serve as a QA expert in evaluating the QA Programs of major program participants, including
subcontractors and suppliers, in order to recommend corrective actions, redirect efforts, and provide
judgment regarding a project or facility's potential for success. Present findings to program or facility
management and Site QA.

Perform other duties as assigned by management.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Candidate must meet at least one of the following Requirements:

Education:
• BS degree in technical discipline with 8-10 years of Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or Engineering
experience in the fields of Operations, Maintenance, Construction or Industrial Manufacturing

• An associate degree and 10-12 years of practical experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or
Engineering experience in the fields of Operations, Maintenance, Construction or Industrial
Manufacturing

• A high school diploma with at least 16 years of multi-disciplined professional Quality Assurance or
engineering related experience with increasing levels of responsibility in an operations, maintenance,
construction, or manufacturing environment.

Experience/Skills:
• Practical experience in quality control, work control, materials management, civil/structural,
mechanical, maintenance, construction, or related areas
• Candidate must be able to perform weekly field walk-downs of the job site for engineering work
being performed. These walk-downs may involve constructions sites with uneven surfaces and
work in progress, walking for distances over a half mile, and climbing ladders to access remote
areas.
• Well-developed organizational and supervisory skills with good communication talents

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Area Security Access: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance.
An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected
candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments.

• Previous Mechanical and Welding inspection or surveillance experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are
preferred.

Current or prior certification as a lead auditor is preferred

ASQC-Certified Quality Engineer is desirable is preferred

Work Hours: A 40 hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10’s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80’s (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager.
