Principal Engineer - Electrical Design Engineer

SUMMARY:
Define the scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to challenges involving unique or controversial problems. Creatively meet all company and industry requirements and apply site systems to achieve quality, timely, and cost-effective results. Provide quality guidance and assistance to less senior professionals on related tasks.
Resolve complex problems by applying technical experience in a field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields.
Incorporate advanced technical practices and various complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or unique materials or processes, and complex coordination or oversight requirements into problem-solving and program planning.
Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s} of technical knowledge.
Provide direction and position responsibility inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and applications of existing engineering or scientific principles.
Evaluate the results of programs and prepare reports and recommendations based on these.

Identify and recommend improvements where established technology components and methodology are inadequate for solution.
Keep informed of the advancement of technology as applied through one's area of technology.
Prepare plans, including schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements for solving technical tasks identified by management.
Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor budget expenditures, and review the quality of work performed.
Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues, and management.
Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.
Enhance expertise in the field through leadership in local technical societies.
Demonstrate creative ability through patent disclosures, problem-solving, engineering reports, technical papers, and articles.
Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS. Primary responsibilities include engineering analysis, construction support, walk-downs, design development, and generation of design output documents, including but not limited to Single Line Drawings, Electrical Equipment Lists, Control System Design, Control Schematics and Connection Diagrams, Electrical Equipment Specifications, Bulk Material Specifications; Circuit/Raceway/Wiring/Connection Design; Grounding; Heat Tracing; Fire.
Detection; Short Circuit Calculations; Arc Flash Incident Energy Analysis, Load Flow Analysis; and Electrical System Sizing Calculations.
Engineering services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures. SRNS will provide programmatic guidance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
Ph.D. degree in applicable science or engineering discipline and 5+ years' experience. OR
An MS with 8+ years' experience. OR A BS with 10+ years' experience or more.
Position specific: BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer in Electrical Engineering.
Candidate must demonstrate ten (10) years of design experience in the nuclear or chemical process industry and possess a working knowledge of NEC, IES, NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA requirements.
Candidate must have experience using software (preferably ETAP) to generate electrical system calculations.
The candidate must be able to perform weekly field walk-downs of the job site for the engineering work being performed. These walk-downs may involve construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances of over half a mile, climbing ladders to access remote areas, dressing in protective clothing, and working in environments where a respirator is required.
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" security clearance.
Previous SRS Design Engineering or DOE facility experience is preferred.
Proficiency in using MicroStation 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software is preferred.
