As the lead mechanical system engineering nsss technical supervisor for functional groups of nsss systems, provides technical interpretations of design requirements as they apply to the maintenance and operation of nsss systems. Provides engineering recommendations and alternatives for solving operational problems involving system and component performance. Also serves as the primary plant contact or expert for assigned nsss systems.
Develop solutions and engineering options to support safe, reliable, and efficient system operation. Develops and performs tests to demonstrate that design requirements and specifications are met for modified systems. Performs work that involves conventional systems engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements and difficult coordination requirements.
Work requires a broad knowledge of system precedents and performance as well as an extensive knowledge of principles of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. The knowledge and expertise required for this level of work result from progressive experience. As a fully competent system engineer in all conventional experience aspects, conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard problem-solving techniques and the application of system procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered.
Required sufficient professional experience to ensure competence as a fully trained worker. Technically supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of a small staff of system engineers and technicians, estimates personnel needs and schedules, and assigns work to meet completion dates.
Education and experience/certificates, licenses, and registration requirements bachelor�s degree in mechanical/electrical engineering or other related engineering degree from an accredited curriculum, plus appropriate continuing education. Licensed professional engineer desirable. Membership in professional and technical societies is desirable.
Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access and s-3 and s-4 medical qualifications when applicable. Must be able and willing to assume on-call rotational assignments which may include 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week availability.
