Outage Control Technician – Diablo Canyon Power Plant, Avila Beach, CA


This is an outage temporary additional position supporting our upcoming refueling outage and is an IBEW represented classification currently subject to collective bargaining and union dues.

This position is contingent on ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access at a commercial nuclear power plant including background investigation, initial and random drug screen, psychological screen, and passing grade on written tests.


Department Overview


Diablo Canyon Power Plant's (DCPP) Instrument and Controls Department is responsible for performing maintenance

and modification to plant systems, structures, and components during Refueling Outage periods.


Position Summary


This position's principal duties consist of testing, calibrating, maintaining, and installing power plant control, monitoring, alarm, and indicating systems and their individual components. May be required to assist plant engineers in performing and evaluating plant tests.


Responsibilities:


* Test, calibrate, maintain, and install all types of pneumatic, hydraulic, or electrical devices using the required measuring and test equipment.


* Assist in performance and evaluation of plant tests, which includes pneumatic and electric equipment.


* Operate hand and portable electrical tools, such as drills, saws, wrenches, screwdrivers, wire cutters, meters, measuring devices, and benders.


The requirements to perform the above essential functions include reading and understanding work orders, procedures, drawings, and other technical material. Must be able to work in and around radiation/contamination fields. Must successfully complete radiation worker and department specific training. Must be able to attend work as scheduled due to the finite nature of the assignment.


The physical requirements to perform the above essential functions include lifting (moderate - up to 50 pounds); transporting material on carts (up to 500 pounds); bending, stooping, and twisting; climbing (stairs and ladders); walking (up to five miles/day); working on stationary and/or swinging scaffolds; working at heights up to 250 feet high; working in confined spaces and awkward positions; and standing for long periods of time. Additionally, ability to wear and work in a respirator in radioactivity contaminated and/or environmentally hazardous areas of the plant. These duties must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Qualifications:


* INPO accredited training records, from a commercial nuclear power plant, are highly desirable.
