Outage RP Technician – Diablo Canyon Power Plant, Avila Beach, CA

Department Overview
Diablo Canyon Power Plant's (DCPP) Radiation Protection Department provides radiological support and oversight of the plant's activities. The RP department will play a pivotal role in ensuring that applicable regulatory guidelines and requirements are followed.
Position Summary
This position's principal duties consist of:
• Regulatory compliance
• Radiation surveys
• Job coverage
• Access control
• Work permit implementation
• Environmental monitoring and sampling
• Decontamination Support
The normal work schedule is a 4 day - 10 hour shift. Candidate may be required to work weekends, night shifts, extended hours, holidays, with rotating days off and no schedule flexibility. Candidates must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment including but not limited to: hard hat: safety glasses; safety goggles; gloves; full body fall protection harnesses; ear plugs and/or muffs; safety vests; raingear; fire resistant clothing consisting of long sleeve shirts / pants and/or coveralls. To maintain employment, you must obtain and maintain unescorted site access.
Responsibilities:
• Perform contamination and radiation level surveys, including routine isotopic analysis to assist in assuring that the limits contained in the Company's radiation control standards are not exceeded, and maintain survey and other appropriate records in support of the plant and environmental monitoring programs
• Instruct employees and others in proper radiation protection procedures; perform and advise other employees in the decontamination of spaces and equipment and the handling, packaging, and storing, of solid radioactive wastes and other radioactive material; and ensure that portable radiation detection and personnel radiation protection equipment are in satisfactory, operable condition
• Make routine calibration checks of portable and counting room radiation detection equipment
• Collect and analyze radioactive and nonradioactive samples in accordance with standard procedures and make recommendations to the appropriate supervisor based on the results of such analyses.
Qualifications
Minimum:
• ANSI Standard 3.1 qualified
• High school diploma or GED
• Strong work ethics
Desired:
• Experience with radiation protection procedures and policies at PG&E
