Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for future Safety Basis Analyst opportunities in Lemont, IL.

Safety Basis Analyst

The Safety Basis Analyst is responsible for providing technical support in the area of nuclear safety basis documents, nuclear criticality support, hazard analyses for radiological facilities, safety assessment documents for accelerators, and Unreviewed Safety Question and Unreviewed Safety Investigation Processes, including but not limited to:

Evaluation of existing safety basis documents for interpretation and/or revisions (e.g. through amendments).
Performing annual review and updates of safety basis documentation.
Providing support for the development and validation of procedures, work plans, and administrative systems needed for safety basis implementation in NWM nuclear facilities.
Providing technical expertise for safety basis document development and maintenance to support deactivation program activities.
Providing safety basis support for management assessments and readiness assessments.
Becoming, and remaining qualified, as USQ preparer/reviewer, and performing the USQ process, including screens, determinations, and evaluations of the safety of the situation.
Knowledge of 10 CFR Part 830 Subpart B Safety Basis Requirements
Knowledge of DOE G 424.1-1C implementation Guide for Use in Addressing Unreviewed Safety Question Requirements.
Developing Plans of Action and Start-up Notification Plans for NWM nuclear facilities.

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
Knowledge required of federal regulations 10 CFR 830 Subpart B Safety Basis Requirements and other DOE requirements, guides and standards for the preparation and maintenance of the safety basis for nuclear facilities, including but not limited to documented safety analyses, technical safety requirements, the unreviewed safety question process, safety assessments documents, hazard analysis for radiological facilities.
Skills required in applying analytical approaches and techniques used in safety evaluations to multiple facilities and operations; interpreting and integrating results into safety basis documents; oral and written communication of results.
Knowledge required in the use of analytical methods for hazards and risk assessment, failure analysis, and radiological and chemical release consequence evaluation.
Knowledge required of nuclear technology safety standards and practices; radiological materials use and controls; nuclear technology accident phenomenology; experimental tools and techniques; and nuclear criticality safety.
Knowledge of DOE, OSHA, NEC, NFPA, NEPA and Laboratory safety policies and procedures.
Knowledge of system drawings, quality assurance documents, PAAA and ORPS requirements, and radiological protection practices and requirements.
Knowledge of criticality safety, handling of fissile and other radioactive materials, and electrical and mechanical systems.
Organizational skills and ability to interpret technical documents. Ability to write in a clear, direct style. Verbal and written communications skills for interactions with subordinates, superiors and external contacts.

General Qualifications:
Qualified personnel shall have a strong knowledge of and technical implementation skills in their discipline area.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to use a personal computer (including standard office software applications and material/waste tracking databases) are required.
When required, personnel shall have field experience working in areas where radiological and chemical materials/wastes are used and around heavy equipment.
