UDR is seeking qualified candidates for a NUCLEAR SAFETY ENGINEER opportunity for our customer in Aiken, SC to support the Savannah River Site.

NUCLEAR SAFETY ENGINEER

DUTIES

Support the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Capital Projects in the areas of
Nuclear & Criticality Safety Engineering support associated with the Savannah River Site (SRS).
Provide technical assistance in developing nuclear safety documents and analyses, technical
safety requirements, and related technical support documentation. Ensure that the developed
nuclear safety documentation complies with requirements and as necessary, applicable controls
are implemented in field procedures. Conduct Nuclear Safety Program Assessments, Facility
Readiness Assessments and Implementation Verification Reviews and maintain Program
Manuals in accordance with 10 CFR 830, DOE O 413.3, DOE O 420.1, DOE-STD-1189, DOE-
STD-3009 and related standards and guides.

Services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures. Programmatic guidance will
be provided by SRNS.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
BS degree in Engineering, Math, or Science and 15 years of experience in the nuclear safety
industry supporting the Department of Energy (DOE) or the commercial nuclear industry.

Experience/Skills:
Previous experience with implementation of 10 CFR 830, DOE O 413.3, DOE O 420.1, DOE-
STD-1189, DOE-STD-3009 and related standards and guides is required. Familiar with Nuclear
Criticality Safety Programs and considered a Nuclear Safety Subject Matter Expert. Proficient
performing Nuclear Safety Program Assessments, Facility Readiness Assessments, and
Implementation Verification Reviews. Proven ability to solve complex problems in the field.
Work history demonstrating personal accountability for project schedules, deadlines, budgets,
and the safe performance of work. Understands and applies discipline's advanced theories,
concepts, and art with advanced knowledge of related disciplines. Peer recognition as an expert.

• Support the SRNS Nuclear & Criticality Safety Engineering organization in the development, review, and implementation of nuclear safety documentation for NNSA Capital Projects as directed at the Savannah River Site.
• Provide technical assistance in developing and reviewing nuclear safety documents and analyses, technical safety requirements, and related technical support documentation.
• Provide technical assistance in developing and reviewing documentation required by DOE-STD-1189 including Safety Design Strategy, Conceptual Safety Design Report and Preliminary Documented Safety Analysis.

• Ensure that the developed nuclear safety documentation complies with requirements and as necessary, applicable controls are implemented in field procedures. Demonstrate a minimum of 15 years of recent experience in the nuclear safety industry through support of the Department of Energy (DOE) or
the commercial nuclear industry.
• A combination of education and experience will be considered where candidate
has an advance degree.
• Previous experience with the use and implementation of 10 CFR 830, DOE O 413.3, DOE O 420.1, DOE-STD-1189, DOE-STD-3009 and other related directives and standards is required.
• Previous experience in leading/facilitating teams to develop inputs for PDSA Chapters 3, 4, 5.
• Direct experience developing PDSA/DSA Chapter 3 including development of accident scenarios, incorporation of accident analysis calculations and incorporation of hazards analysis results for an existing facility or project is required.
• Direct experience developing PDSA/DSA Chapter 4 sections for SSCs and Specific Administrative Controls including safety function, functional requirements, performance criteria, and system evaluation is required.
• Direct experience developing PDSA/DSA Chapter 5 sections for Safety Limits, Limiting Control Settings, Limiting Conditions for Operation, Surveillance Requirements, Specific Administrative Controls, Design Features, and Interfaces is required.
• Demonstrate personal accountability for facility/project schedules, deadlines, budgets, and the safe performance of work, and proficiency in developing safety basis documentation.
• Previous experience in developing, reviewing, and maintaining SRS safety basis
documents is preferred.
• Demonstrated previous SRS nuclear safety engineering experience is preferred. Nuclear Safety Documentation and Program expertise through various avenues such as internal and external publications and professional society presentations preferred.

Work Hours:
A 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRS utilizes various work schedules, including 5/8s (8 hours/day; five days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and a 9/80s (9 hours/day, five days on week A and 4 days on week B). Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has a 30-minute lunch. Work hours in excess of forty hours a week may be required, as authorized by SRNS management.

Area Security Access:
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance. Supplier shall possess a positive FOCI determination from DOE which includes “Q” security clearance level. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments. Candidates who have possessed an active DOE
clearance (“L” or “Q”) within the past two years are preferred.
