We are seeking qualified candidates to perform the following:

The Code Validation Experiment Design and Scaling Analysis Consultant is part of a growing team supporting the design and licensing of the Natrium Demonstration reactor and is primarily responsible for support nuclear system analysis computer code verification and validation (V&V) with the design as well as scaling analysis to various integral effect tests (IETs) and separate effect tests (SETs).

The Code Validation Experiment Design and Scaling Analysis Consultant may also contribute subject matter expertise to other projects under development by the TerraPower Sodium Fast Reactor (SFR) Program. Other engineering activities include, but are not limited to, PIRT development, experiment design and operation, code benchmark with Integral Effect Tests (IETs) or Separate Effect Tests (SETs), scaling analysis, contributing to code assessment and adequacy evaluation, as well as performing verification and validation activities.

Responsibilities
• Review and develop the scaling methodology that supports the IETs and SETs design and code assessment meeting requirements in Regulatory Guide 1.203
• Review and perform the scaling analysis to IETs and SETs to identify similarity between experiments and Natrium prototype design.
• Mentor and guide TerraPower engineers in experiment design and scaling analysis.
• Provide insights to the code assessment and the alignment with PIRT.
• Review and develop the assessment bases (benchmark, identify applicable tests, etc.) and assess the evaluation model against applicable tests and perform appropriate benchmark calculations.
• Review and contribute the test requirements development.
• Review and contribute the experiment design, instrumentation, and operation.
• Contribute to the verification and validation activities.
• Perform engineering reviews of analyses and methods development.

Key Qualifications and Skills
• Must have extensive experience in developing the scaling methodology and perform scaling analysis under RG 1.203 requirements.
• Must have extensive experience in Nuclear IETs and/or SETs design, operation, and application the data to support nuclear computer code validation or code assessment under RG 1.203 requirements.
• In-depth knowledgeable of nuclear systems thermal-hydraulic as well as reactor dynamics and transient phenomena.
• Significant experience with nuclear safety analysis software such as SAS4A/SASSYS-1, SAM, GOTHIC, RELAP5, TRACE, MELCOR, or other nuclear system analysis software.
• Familiarity with nuclear design, regulatory requirements, and risk-informed performance-based technology guidance for Non-Light Water Reactors is required.
• Familiarity with EMDAP and Regulatory Guide 1.203 is required.
• Experience with SFR safety methods is highly desirable. Experience with other reactor designs, such as Light Water Reactors (LWRs), can be considered when differentiating candidates.
• Demonstrated strong quantitative, analytical, modeling and reporting skills.
• Understanding of NQA-1 requirements associated with test programs and code validation.
• Experience in working in multi-disciplinary engineering teams to address engineering challenges.
• Ph.D. in nuclear engineering, or other relevant engineering degree, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the nuclear field.
