Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking Engineering, Professional, Technical, and administrative personnel as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy in Albuquerque, NM.

We are seeking a motivated R&D Electronics Engineer to join the Inertial Sensors Department. You will support advanced microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) sensor technology development in transitioning new environmental sensors from development to production rigor manufacturing for high consequence national security applications. This position involves designing, developing, and maintaining testers to characterize inertial sensor device performance for these applications and ensure that the devices meet performance requirements. Future opportunities include pioneering new MEMS based technologies for navigation grade accelerometers with long lifetime and harsh environment applications, in addition to supporting future technologies with applications in other mission areas such as non-proliferation, Energy, and Homeland Security. Our dedicated team has a large mix of work including Research and Development (R&D) design and product engineering with exciting opportunities to support high impact mission programs.

Job Responsibilities:

On any given day, you may be called on to:
-Identify, procure, and commission new characterization and test equipment to develop new testers for basic performance evaluation and environmental testing of inertial sensors.
-Coordination and execution of test apparatus definition, configuration, and testing.
-Develop custom software for testers as well as data viewers of resulting test data.
-Lead a team of technologists for production activities including coordination of MEMS sensor testing activities on developed testers and work in progress (WIP) management.
-Team closely with other component teams including inertial sensor design, fabrication, and packaging/integration.
-Active participation in analyzing, interpreting, and reporting on test data.
-Present technical content and results internally within the team as well as, externally to partners, customers, and management.

Due to the nature of work, this candidate must work onsite.

Minimum Qualifications:
-Masters degree in a STEM-related field (such as Mechanical or Electrical Engineering) and at least two (2) years of relevant microelectronics or inertial sensor test experience (internship experience is eligible).
-Active DOE Q or DOD Top Secret (TS) clearance.
-Academic or professional experience with inertial sensor technologies (e.g., accelerometers, gyroscopes, etc.).
-Experience with test equipment such as shakers, shock testers, laser doppler vibrometers, centrifuges, thermal chambers, or other similar test capabilities.
-Computer programming skills, especially MATLAB, and experience programming electronic interfaces with test equipment and data acquisition.
-Experience with data analysis and a general understanding of Digital Signal Processing.

Desired Qualifications:
-Academic or professional experience in MEMS
-Custom test fixture development, including CAD design and 3D printing.
-Experience with tester development for production level rigor activities.
-Experience in a structured manufacturing environment, such as private industry or another production environment
-Demonstrated ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and communicate findings and solutions to external vendors and/or engineers.
-Ability to conceive and propose ideas for process improvement through troubleshooting to overcome challenges.
-Strong oral, written, interpersonal and problem-solving skills, including the ability to collaborate in a diverse team environment and develop positive relationships.
