R&D Mechanical Technician Primary FunctionAssist and execute laboratory tests and experiments following technical specifications, quality procedures/work instructions and safety adherence.This position identifies laboratory work which requires a high degree of manipulative or other special skills acquired through experience, coupled with technical training and application of knowledge in the area of specialization.Safety
- Know and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment
- Have a knowledge/use of rules and follow job specific safety requirements (Radiological/stored energy/chemical/industrial/etc)
- Work safely with job hazards such as high heat and stored energy/work safely with hazardous materials
- Train, document and, adhere to quality procedures/work instructions and specified Westinghouse quality requirements
- Understand gaps in quality procedures/work instructions
- Collect and process data from testing following procedures
- Fabricate test equipment
- Plans technical approach by setting up and conducting experiments with support of higher coded technicians or engineers
- Support and assist identification of test equipment with higher codes
- Execute specific work steps in accordance with engineering test plans, industry specifications and standards
- Support maintenance of lab equipment
- Routine housekeeping and material disposal
- Assist in identifying calibration needs of equipment
- Utilize lean manufacturing processes such as "5S"
- Support lab ownership including the general oversight operations and ability to address all necessary issues with oversight from Lab owners.
- Perform routine records maintenance
- Ensure all time entries are correct and up to date
- Knowledge and use of Westinghouse specific administrative and tracking systems including the corrective action process, Human Performance tools
- Manage inventory including tools, parts
- Associate's degree in engineering or technical curriculum.
- No amount of experience will be permitted to substitute for the required education in Laboratory Tech 10 position.
- However, recognized technical programs from accredited institutions will be permitted to substitute for required formal education.
- Preference will be given to Navel Nuclear or military programs
- Knowledge of one or more of the following disciplines
- Machining, auto claves
- Mechanical Testing
- Remote manipulators, remote testing, and machining of specimens
- Electrical construction (welding, soldering)
- Mechanical construction (drilling, cutting), metallography, electron-optics, metrology, test set-ups, testing plans, radiological handling, and testing
- Specific desired skills in computers and Microsoft office suites
- High consideration for those that have Mechanical Testing and/or Electron Optics background or experience.
