Key Project Requirements:
• Power Plant Maintenance Leadership – Proven experience managing preventive, predictive, corrective, and overhaul maintenance in a solid fuel-fired power plant.
• Technical Expertise – Strong knowledge of steam turbine technology, mechanical systems, electrical systems, instrumentation, and CMMS programs.
• Reliability & Process Improvement – Ability to analyze and improve maintenance processes, reduce downtime, and ensure optimal plant performance.
• Safety & Compliance Oversight – Experience enforcing OSHA standards, risk-based asset management (RBAM), and regulatory compliance for plant safety and reliability.
Job Summary:
PIC Group is seeking a Maintenance Manager to lead maintenance operations at a 25MW woody biomass power plant in California. Reporting to the Assistant Plant Manager, this role oversees preventive, predictive, corrective, and overhaul maintenance of all plant systems, including electric generating equipment, steam turbines, material handling, and rolling stock. The Maintenance Manager ensures safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations by managing CMMS programs, maintenance staff, and contractors, while driving process improvements, minimizing downtime, and maintaining compliance with safety and environmental regulations. This position requires strong leadership, technical expertise in mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems, and the ability to collaborate with operations, engineering, and administrative teams to optimize plant performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ensure safe plant operations in full compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Direct maintenance personnel and contractors to maintain plant reliability and efficiency.
• Oversee and manage the CMMS work order program, ensuring effective allocation of manpower, equipment, and materials.
• Plan, schedule, and manage preventive and predictive maintenance to optimize plant performance.
• Continuously review and improve maintenance processes, ensuring staff are trained and follow industry best practices.
• Investigate operating abnormalities and incidents, implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime.
• Prepare and analyze maintenance reports, including forced outage investigations and engineering evaluations.
• Manage overhauls of plant equipment, coordinating internal teams and external contractors as needed.
• Maintain effective communication with plant leadership, operations, and administrative staff to align maintenance strategies with operational goals.
Job Requirements:
• Strong understanding of power plant maintenance, including steam turbines, hydraulics, electricity, and electronics.
• Working knowledge of operations, engineering, and maintenance functions and their interrelation.
• Experience managing Electricians, IC&E Technicians, Mechanics, and other skilled trades.
• Knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Ability to analyze complex maintenance issues and implement cost-effective solutions.
• Understanding of accounting systems, budgeting, and cost impact analysis related to maintenance.
• Familiarity with Risk-Based Asset Management (RBAM) strategies.
• Strong oral and written communication skills for reporting and team coordination.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CMMS programs for maintenance tracking.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to sit, stand, walk long distances, and navigate uneven terrain for extended periods during 8-hour shifts.
• Frequent climbing of stairs and ladders, with occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling in confined spaces.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 lbs., have full use of hands and fingers, and meet vision and communication requirements for plant operations.
Education / Experience:
• High School Diploma or equivalent with 6+ years of supervisory experience in a solid fuel-fired power plant, OR
• Associate degree or industry-recognized certification in a related field (preferred) with 4+ years of supervisory experience in a solid fuel-fired power plant, OR
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 3+ years of supervisory experience in a solid fuel-fired power plant.
• Experience with wood-fired CFB boilers and steam turbine generators is strongly preferred but not required.
The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $70-$80.
