Job Summary:
PIC Group is seeking a Lead Mechanical Commissioning Technician to support a greenfield 300MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) project in Texas. Reporting directly to the Commissioning Manager, the Lead Mechanical Commissioning Technician will play a pivotal role in leading and coordinating the commissioning of all mechanical systems and equipment. This role requires extensive hands-on expertise in mechanical systems, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and strong collaboration skills to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders. As a key leader on the commissioning team, the Lead Mechanical Commissioning Technician will ensure that all mechanical systems are tested, verified, and operationally optimized in alignment with project goals, industry standards, and safety protocols.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage a team of mechanical commissioning technicians, providing clear guidance and direction to ensure successful project completion.
• Develop and implement detailed commissioning plans, schedules, and procedures for mechanical systems, aligning with project requirements and timelines.
• Oversee the testing and validation of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and associated equipment, ensuring they operate efficiently and as designed.
• Identify and troubleshoot technical issues during commissioning, implementing timely solutions to maintain project progress.
• Maintain comprehensive records of commissioning activities, such as test results, equipment specifications, and adherence to industry standards.
• Enforce quality control measures to ensure mechanical systems meet design specifications and performance expectations.
• Collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to integrate mechanical systems into broader project scopes.
• Ensure all commissioning activities comply with safety regulations and standards.
• Provide training and mentorship to junior technicians, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing.
• Prepare and present regular progress reports, highlighting commissioning milestones, challenges, and recommendations for improvement to senior management.
Job Requirements:
• Proven expertise in commissioning mechanical systems in the power generation industry.
• Comprehensive understanding of Balance of Plant (BOP) systems, including design, operation, and maintenance principles.
• Extensive experience with boiler and heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) systems, covering design, operation, and maintenance.
• Proficient in commissioning and pre-commissioning processes, including verification and compliance with project requirements.
• Working knowledge of construction completion requirements and their integration into commissioning processes.
• Strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve technical issues effectively and efficiently.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams, providing direction, support, and motivation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
• Strong focus on quality assurance, ensuring adherence to specifications and project standards.
• Proficient in the use of commissioning software and tools to streamline workflows and documentation.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and work in confined spaces or at heights.
• Ability to operate in varying environmental conditions, including extreme weather.
Education / Experience:
• Degree in construction or engineering, or equivalent experience preferred.
• 5+ years of mechanical commissioning experience, including expertise in Balance of Plant (BOP) system design and operation.
• OSHA-10 or 30 certification preferred
