Title:                   Piping Project Engineer
Position Type:    Contract

Reports to:         Engineering Manager
Status:               Non-Exempt 

Job Summary:  
PIC Group has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Piping Project Engineer to join our team in a contract role. The Piping Project Engineer will be responsible for developing piping system designs that meet code, contract, and schedule requirements for large-scale power generation projects. This position requires expertise in interpreting piping codes and technical specifications, as well as close collaboration with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure project success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•    Interpret and ensure compliance with ASME B31.1 and B31.3 piping codes within designs and vendor specifications.
•    Respond to piping technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel.
•    Review project contracts, schedules, and requirements to determine piping deliverables and deadlines.
•    Prepare specifications for piping fabrication, pipe supports, and piping hardware (e.g., flex hoses, strainers, orifice plates).
•    Review isometrics, P&IDs, and mechanical drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
•    Participate in project kick-off meetings, reviewing contract requirements and establishing timelines.
•    Coordinate with purchasing to expedite sub-contractors in relation to engineering and manufacturing matters.
•    Implement corrective actions to improve quality and reduce nonconformance within piping systems.
•    Develop and maintain master documentation lists for piping and layout engineering.
•    Extract and analyze reports from 3D piping models, ensuring accurate piping component lists.
•    Interface with EPC contractors, customers, and internal teams to ensure alignment on engineering requirements.

Job Requirements:
•    Strong understanding of ASME B31.1 and B31.3 piping codes.
•    Ability to review and analyze 3D models, prepare detailed specifications, and extract piping component lists.
•    Experience with pipe stress analysis and familiarity with piping materials and hardware.
•    Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
•    Experience coordinating with vendors and subcontractors on technical engineering matters.

Physical Requirements:
•    Ability to work in industrial environments, including climbing ladders, standing, sitting, and walking for extended periods.
•    May be required to wear personal protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, and appropriate footwear.

Education/Experience:
•    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required
•    5-10 years of experience in piping design and project engineering.
•    Preferred: Master’s Degree in Engineering, Professional Engineering (P.E.) license, and experience with 3D modeling software (e.g., Smart3D).
•    Familiarity with welding and NDE processes is a plus.
