Job Summary:  
PIC Group has an excellent opportunity for an Auxiliary Operator to support a 50MW test facility in La Porte, TX that burns natural gas with near zero emissions. The plant uses oxy-combustion in a super critical CO¬2 atmosphere that turns a turboexpander to produce electricity while inherently capturing the CO¬2. The Auxiliary Operator will report to the Operations Manager and is responsible for plant operations, maintenance, and overall plant support services. The Auxiliary Operator will perform all operations functions, as well as preventive and corrective maintenance under the direction and supervision of site management. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•    Supports the Control Room Operators in the proper operation of the plant with minimal guidance or assistance. 
•    Communicates plant issues and keeps Control Room Operators fully informed of plant operations, unusual conditions, and faulty equipment
•    Assuring that all major and minor equipment are operating properly.
•    Perform tests, takes readings, and records data.
•    Perform startups, shutdowns, and care for all plant equipment. 
•    Perform maintenance work of ordinary nature when not operating.
•    Perform all work according to established procedures and safety practices.
•    Perform other duties which are similar, related, and incidental to the position.
•    Fully supports the use of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) by displaying a proficiency in using the system, entering data consistent with the facility maintenance philosophy.  
•    Handles corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance work orders in a timely and high-quality manner as assigned. 
•    Visually inspects and listens to equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.      
•    Works with plant chemist, operators, and water treatment vendor to properly monitor overall chemistry program.
•    Supports capital projects and/or major program responsibilities as assigned by Plant Management.
•    Observe, report, troubleshoot, and correct situations that are likely to develop into operational problems or safety hazards.
•    Report and respond to chemical spills and leaks in accordance with plant emergency response plans.
•    Monitor and operate equipment circuit breakers and switches as directed by the Control Room Operator for safe and efficient operation of the plant.  This includes opening, locking, and tagging for isolation and maintenance.
•    Obtain thorough turnover from Auxiliary Operator being relieved, including special orders and unusual operating conditions.  Review operating logs and inspect plant equipment, controls, and indications.
•    Maintain work area in a clean, orderly condition.
•    Report all maintenance activities to the Control Room Operator.
•    Participate in scheduled safety meetings and training.
•    Safely operate vehicles on-site as required.
•    Perform other duties as assigned by the Control Room Operator and Operations Manager.

Job Requirements:
•    Ability to work in a team environment and communicate clearly.
•    Ability to provide on the job training, mentoring, and leadership to other Operators.
•    Strong operational and mechanical understanding of power plant equipment. 
•    Mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment knowledge is required.
•    Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of power plant operations. 
•    Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
•    The ability to read and understand plant programs, policies, procedures, and instructions specific to the associated Operations & Maintenance Agreement.  
•    Knowledge of equipment isolation and tagging procedures.
•    Thorough knowledge of the purpose and proper use of the plant safety equipment.
•    Excellent problem-solving skills to identify, analyze, and recommend solutions.
•    General knowledge of mathematics and science at the high school level.
•    Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work group.
•    Valid driver’s license required. 

Physical Requirements:
•    Duties require walking, standing for extended periods of time, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders and stairs, and lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs. Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
•    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
•    The frequent use of protective equipment (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, etc.) may be required.


Education / Experience:
•    High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
•    2+ years of experience as an Auxiliary Operator and/or equivalent plant required.
•    Prior experience in chemical facilities, cogeneration, or other power plant experience preferred.
