[HP/RCT] Radiological Control Technician - UCOR - 8700

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Radiological Control Technician opportunity in Oak Ridge, TN to support UCOR at the Transuranic Waste Processing Center (TWPC).

Citizenship: United States Citizenship Required
Local candidates only. No per diem.

United Cleanup Oak Ridge (UCOR) is the lead cleanup contractor for the Department of Energy (DOE) Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position reports to the Field Radiological Protection Manager and is responsible for providing radiological protection support activities for the UCOR’s TPWC operations. The RPT shall support UCOR’s safety vision, mission and strategic objectives and be responsible for adhering to all aspects of performance, safety, policies and guidelines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Monitor radiological work, provide controls for ensuring work is performed in accordance with sound radiological practices.
Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of radiological fundamentals, radiation protection concepts, and risks of exposure to radiation.
Demonstrates the ALARA principles in work activities, encourages, and directs co-workers in those practices.
Plan and conduct radiological measurements to support safe and compliant work.
Interpret and verify field data from radiological surveys and monitoring.
Demonstrate a working understanding of site procedures, and comprehensive knowledge of Radiological Protection procedures.
Have a thorough knowledge of related site procedures and an understanding of 10 CFR 835, applicable DOE orders
Perform simple repairs on radiological instrumentation.
Work as a team with fellow Radiological Protection and operations personnel.
Engage in written comprehensive tests and practical demonstrations to maintain RPT qualification.
Execute independent judgment in order to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload.
Be knowledgeable of TWPC processes and equipment.
Assist subordinate and junior RPTs in the performance of job coverage surveys and activities.
Document and record data in databases, forms, and logs to provide reproducible account of the work performed.
Complete UCOR RPT core academics and demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the radiological controls in an oral board
Attend training and complete computer-based training as assigned.
Maintain required qualifications for assigned duties.
Is conscience of and fully supports a Safety-First work environment
Performs duties as assigned by the Radiological Protection Supervisor and Field Radiological Protection Manager

SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required; Bachelor or Associates Degree in an applied science is beneficial; Navy nuclear power program is desirable.
Experience: 2+ years credited radiological protection (RP) experience; or equivalent
Professional: Certification by the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT) is encouraged
Preferred: up to 5 years’ experience in Department of Energy (DOE) radiological activities.
